Over the past three years we’ve been in business (first as Corpseknit and now as a Resurrection of Romance) the most requested item has been hats! The issue with knitting them on a flatbed knitting machine though has always been in how to shape them properly. To create a 3 dimensional shape- knitting flat, I’ve always just gone for adding more seams- but that of course makes anything more expensive- which I try to avoid whenever I can!
Last October though, in the midst of my busiest time of the year, I took a few days off to go to the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles (MCCP) to a workshop for professional knitwear designers taught by Liz Collins from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Having been wanting to take an advanced knitting course at both of those schools for a while now, I jumped at the opportunity!
Another designer in the workshop was attempting to knit spheres- so in working out her design, we came to discuss short row knitting. It’s a technique I’ve know about for creating ruffles and darts, but never really thought about for creating fully 3-dimensional shapes. It involves taking needles in and out of work to build up certain areas of knitting- so the perfect technique to create a shaped hat without seams!
So here it is- the new hat design- finally! Shaped with dozens of small panels along the top to create a beautiful round top, finished with a picot / crochet band, and beaded with swarovski crystals and a beautiful 100 year old black glass antique button. So beautiful!! Available online only- at http://shop.JessicaRoseDesign.com

A behind the scenes video of the Romantic Minimalism campaign photoshoot! In the middle of a heat wave in downtown Toronto, we’re climbing barriers around the Honda Indy race track, finishing hair & make-up on the streetcar to race the sun setting, and avoiding security at the Historic Distillery District. . . a crazy day with amazing results!

We’ve been busy behind the scenes getting the word out about our new Romantic Minimalism collection! Last month we had the pleasure of working with New York City photographer (and Hasselblad Master award winner) Joao ‘Milkman’ Carlos. We shot everything in Downtown Toronto in two of my favourite areas- King Street East between Jarvis and Sherbourne, and the Historic Distillery District.
The historic character of the area was the perfect setting for the vintage 1950′s look we were aiming for. We wanted to keep it modern but give it an elegant, vintage 1950′s feel. The photos were black and white, and the inspiration for the hair and make-up and styling was Audrey Hepburn.
Here are the Final Selections for the Campaign. . .

and some of my other favourites from the day. . .
