Sequins, shimmering pink organza, and Barbie took over our studio last month! In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Toronto Fashion Incubator (where I started my line as a designer in residence), Mattel invited 25 Canadian designers to create a special piece inspired by Barbie. How could I resist?
Many sleepless nights in the studio, weeks of handstitching sequins, and dozens of organza crystals later, I present to you- Crystallic Barbie
A celebration of the collaborative nature of the fashion industry. As reflected in nature when the unexpected combination of cooling air meets with molten lava to create perfectly formed crystals.
While, my gown unfortunately didn’t make it to the runway (my celebrity model was late on set filming), this collaboration between a designer, an actress, and the world’s most influential doll- is now forming perfect crystals yet to be revealed. . .

We’ve just finished hanging a photo exhibit at Balzac’s Coffee, just next door to our shop in the Distillery District! Come out this month for a coffee, see the show, and say hello!
The story:
Get caught in the moment with Toronto fashion designer, Jessica Rose, uncovering the romance in Toronto’s city streets.
From shopping the King East Design District, to an afternoon escape in The Distillery Historic District, exploring artist warehouses, to a glamorous evening out on the Esplanade. Feel inspired in taking time to enjoy the details of the city.
The exhibit features photographs from the Jessica Rose collection, in collaboration with international photographer João Carlos. ‘Fall in Love in Toronto’ is showing in the upstairs gallery of Balzac’s Coffee, located in The Distillery Historic District, now until the end of April.

The first signs of Spring are in the air, and we have a fresh colour palette to celebrate!
My personal favourite- coral orange is this season’s must have colour, and Pantone’s colour of the year. It’s sure to brighten up your day. Also in the line up: oyster white, deep royal blue, and black.
Shop the new styles and colours in person, or in our online shop here

December 1st is normally a very busy day for us- it marks the mid point of the 11-day One of a Kind Show, design work is being completed for the next fall/winter collection, and it’s one of the busiest days of the year in production with Christmas orders coming in non-stop. This year was no exception!
On December 1st, we moved into a new retail studio space in our building- one that we’ve been eyeing for years! Ground floor in the Distillery District- and just in time for the Christmas Market.
First the floors (almost black!) were painted white and the walls were patched and given a fresh coat of paint. Then came the move with all of our *very* heavy industrial equipment- moving downstairs in an out-of-service elevator in off hours to avoid the crowds of visitors! We set up a temporary shop, then tore it all down January 1st to rebuild properly. The progress:
